Richard joined the Rural Development Centre in 1985. He has undertaken a wide range of research on farm adjustment, the economic linkages between primary industries and rural communities, socio-economic change in rural communities, regional economic development, the role of social capital in rural community development, and the commercial potential of native plant and animal species.  He has also recently taught natural resource economics in the School of Economics at UNE.
