Professor Shannon currently holds a half-time position at the State University of New York at Buffalo, USA, in the School of Law, Program on Environmental Law and Policy and is affiliated with the newly created Environment and Society Institute.  She coordinates the Environmental Stewardship Working Group at the Baldy Centre for Law & Social Policy.

Prior to this position, Professor Shannon was on the faculty at the Public Administration Department of the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University (1995-98), the Corkery Endowed Professor of Forest Resources in the College of Forest Resources at the University of Washington (1992-95), the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (1986-92) and the Lewis and Clark Law School (1979-82).

Her research focuses on the emergence of a participatory approach to developing natural resource policy that engages people and organizations in substantive, creative roles rather than reactive and passive roles.  Professor Shannon is working with Professor David Brunckhorst on the Transformations in Social-Ecological Systems project.
