Prior to being granted this position with the Institute for Rural Futures, Jim was the Executive Director of the Rural Development Centre. He joined the Centre in 1978 and during the time he was employed by the Centre he was involved in a range of applied research and consultancy projects in the areas of: agricultural and adult education and training; and the evaluation of social intervention programs in rural communities. Jim has formal training in agriculture, agricultural education and extension, and agricultural economics.

Jim’s main interest at present is in projects which directly involve members of the farm sector, and particularly those projects which have the potential to provide benefits to farmers. All of the project work in which Jim is involved is done in association with other staff members of the Institute.
