Partnerships in Regional Economic Development
The Institute has developed a number of partnerships across the campus of UNE that focus on regional economic development, both in northern New South Wales and in rural Australia generally. Dr Roger Epps, from Geography and Planning within the School of Human and Environmental Sciences, and Dr Judy McNeill from the Institute have been successful in obtaining funding under the Australian Research Council, Strategic Partnerships with Industry Research and Training Program. This will support a major study to apply industry clustering principles to economic development strategies for inland rural towns. To obtain the funding for this study, it was necessary to develop partnership relationships with local government and industry in the Tamworth region. These partners are contributing $115,000 to the study.
